Just weeks after congratulating Cristiano Ronaldo on X, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is reportedly keen on buying Liverpool Football Club, according to British newspaper Weekend Sport (h/t Sports Illustrated).
Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr secured an impressive 3-1 win over Al-Gharafa in the AFC Champions League on November 25, 2024. The Portugal ace netted a brilliant brace during the game and later tweeted on X:
"Big win tonight!’’
Elon Musk took notice of Ronaldo's performance and replied:
''Congrats!''
Musk, who recently backed Donald Trump during the US November elections, appears interested in allegedly growing his power in the UK. The 53-year-old has reportedly decided to purchase Liverpool, who are currently owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
FSG purchased Liverpool in 2010 for a reported sum of £300 million. According to Forbes in 2023, the club is valued at more than £4 billion, which could be affordable for Elon Musk. The latter is currently the world's richest person with a net worth of $421.2 billion.
FSG President Mike Gordon and his entourage have not shown any public inclination to sell Liverpool, hence, these rumors must be taken with a pinch of salt.
How did Cristiano Ronaldo respond to Elon Musk's comment following Al-Nassr win?
Billionaire Elon Musk formally congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo on X after the latter inspired Al-Nassr to a 3-1 win over Al-Gharafa in the AFC Champions League. The 39-year-old playfully replied on November 26, 2024, by taking a subtle dig at the SpaceX CEO.
In response to being congratulated, Ronaldo typed on X:
"@elonmusk... Glad your eyes have time for good “soccer”
Cristiano Ronaldo has been in sensational form for Al-Nassr this season. The Real Madrid legend has scored 16 goals and provided three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions. His efforts have helped the Knights of Najd get to third in the AFC Champions League Group B standings with 13 points from six games, three points behind leaders Al-Hilal.
Ronaldo and Al-Nassr are set to return to action against Al-Akhdoud in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday, January 9 following their winter break.
