According to reports, the Arsenal are considering a move to grant a huge outlay to bring in Serie A duo of Marek Hamsik and Mattia Destro. The report states that Arsene Wenger is set to go shopping in Italy this winter with Roma striker Mattio Destro and Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik high on Wenger’s wish list this January.
Destro was a subject of immense transfer speculation in the summer and huge outrage from the Roma fans when multiple media outlets reported that Roma had agreed to a swap deal with Chelsea for Fernando Torres.
Marek Hamsik, the Slovakian international skipper, has long been mooted to move away from Napoli. This was further escalated when his agent Juraj Venglos, stated: “The future? I prefer not to talk about that.”
Hamsik has long been considered one of the faithfuls, who bleeds the Napoli blue up in the north of Italy and the only remaining piece of the Hamsik-Lavezzi-Cavani triumvirate that first brought Napoli back into the the fold of Italian and continental football. However, a lack of championship thrust (Napoli currently lies in 7th place and 12 points off the leaders) and European football might persuade the 27-year old to look for new pastures.
Matia Destro, who is said to have been quoted a price of around £30million, hasn’t lived up to his price tag this season. He has stuttered himself to only 7 starts for Roma this season, with only 4 goals to his credit. This has been a cause huge disappointment to the Roma faithful who had looked upon the Italian to kick on from 13-goal campaign from last season.
However, at the tender age of 23, a huge amount of Destro’s price is set upon the promising upside that he can bring to any club in the future. Wenger is said to be looking at moving fringe players like Joel Campbell and Lukas Podolski to fund the move for the duo.
