Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning to spend a reported £80 million on three key transfer targets to strengthen his squad in the summer, according to the Metro.

The Frenchman is currently negotiating a new deal at the North London outfit and will commit his long term future to the club, with the promise that significant funds will be available for him to reinvest in the squad so The Gunners’ can compete with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea.

Wenger, who takes his side to Anfield on Saturday, has highlighted the need for a new right back, central midfielder and forward to bolster his ranks and a three man short list has already been drawn up.

Two of the targets are from the Bundesliga in the form of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender and Borussia Dortmund’s Lukasz Piszczek. Meanwhile, Porto and Colombia international Jackson Martinez has been earmarked as the man to add fire power to Arsenal’s front line.

The trio would provide the marquee signings that the fans have craved since they failed to secure a deal for Schalke’s Julian Draxler in January.

A combined fee of £80 million to land all three would send out a message to their Premier League rivals that they can carry a great deal of clout in the transfer market.
