Rumour: Arsenal to make a shock move for Liverpool full back Glen Johnson

Today’s Ridiculous Rumour of the Day is brought to you by TalkSPORT who claim Arsene Wenger will make a move to sign Liverpool defender Glen Johnson.

The radio station claim Liverpool want to get rid of the England international defender due to his high wages and his age as he enters his 30s.

They also claim that due to Bacary Sagna‘s unwillingness to speed up his contract talks, it must mean that he’s leaving, meaning Wenger will go for another highly-paid, over-aged full-back that will need replacing in a couple of years.

There’s also no guarantee that Sagna will be leaving Arsenal, either.

It’s not wrong to think that Liverpool want to sell Johnson, though. Many on Merseyside believe he will leave the club at some point in 2014 as his form has dipped dramatically. If you match that with his sketchy fitness record, his age and high wages, it’s understandable to think that the Reds will want rid sooner rather than later.

However, one thing Liverpool won’t be doing is selling to a direct rival for the top four.TalkSPORT say the fact that Johnson hasn’t signed a contract extension on a deal that runs out in over a year means he wants to leave and Wenger will pounce.

Glen Johnson signing for Arsenal is highly unlikely so this one can go straight in the bin.
