Rumour: Arsenal looking at Belgian speedster Michy Batshuayi

IF Elfsborg v R. Standard de Liege - UEFA Europa League

Michy Batshuayi (R)

Arsenal have been linked with a January move for Standard Liege strikerMichy Batshuayi, according to TalkSPORT. The Belgian forward has scored 12 goals in 17 games this season to bring his total at the club to 30 in 76 appearances, and has reportedly caught the eye of Arsenal’s European scout – former Gillingham midfielder Ty Gooden. DHnewsbelieve that the Gunners are readying a move for the forward, who boasts electric speed and the versatility to play across the front line.

Standard Liege president Roland Duchatelet has admitted that he has had enquiries for the forward, and has revealed that the striker is interesting more than just Arsenal.

“What is new is the interest of Arsenal, although Arsenal are just one of many clubs who are chasing our striker Michy. Anyway, we are not willing to let go Michy this season,” said Duchatelet.

Michy Batshuayi stats

Batshuayi is only 20 years of age, and can play in wide positions as well as through the middle. Despite Standard only picking up a solitary point from their five Europa League fixtures, Batshuayi has managed to complete 10 take-ons over the course of the games. This amounts to one every 29 minutes and accounts for 14.4% of the team’s total take ons.

His pace is one of the side’s main threats and – alongside fellow speed merchant Theo Walcott – would give the Gunners a devastating plan B if their short passing game were to come unstuck.
