Premier League club Arsenal has expressed interest in signing Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillas before the end of the World Cup in Brazil.
After the departure of Lukasz Fabianski to Swansea City, Arsene Wenger wants to sign the Spaniard to provide competition for Wojciech Szczesny and therefore end the “keeper crisis”.
Madrid based newspaper AS claim that Casillas is the Gunners’ number 1 target. The Spanish captain who was freqeuently rotated with Diego Lopez is no longer the first choice goalkeeper of the Madrid outfit.
Though the goalkeeper has three years left on his contract, his wages are decreasing year by year which makes a good case for Casillas to think about a move away from Real Madrid.
Wenger is also hopeful that Casillas’s Spanish teammate Santi Cazorla and former teammate at Real Madrid Mesut Ozil can convince Casillas to join Arsenal.
Casillas has spent his entire career with Real Madrid since making his debut in 2000. He has also been capped more than 150 times by the national team.
