Arsenal are looking to boost their options up front in January, as they have targeted two strikers.
Olivier Giroud has had the striking burden placed firmly on his shoulders this season, with only Nicklas Bendtner for competition and Arsenal look set to enter the sales in the window in order to offer some other options at the forefront of their attack.
Giroud started brightly to suggest that Arsenal were correct to put their faith fully in him, but his performances have trailed off of late, prompting manager Arsene Wenger to start searching for alternatives.
The Mirror has speculated two names that Wenger has reportedly been scouting, with Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi of Standard Liege in Belgium being top of the list.
Morata’s signature will come with a rival in Tottenham Hotspur, who are looking at landing the Spanish youngster on a loan deal when the window reopens, but the Gunners are considered favourites for any deal, with Real manager Carlo Ancelotti preferring Wenger’s set up at the Emirates to Spurs to send Morata.
Batshuayi has been in fine form in the Belgian league this season, netting 12 goals in 17 games for Standard and has been on the end of admiring glances from a host of European sides.
The big Belgian would cost Arsenal in the region of £8million, though appears Standard are more willing are do business than Real as Arsenal look to bring in that extra tonic to ensure their title challenge doesn’t fizzle out.
Could Michy do the business for Arsenal?
The Belgian youngster has a shot accuracy of 43% in the Europa League this term.
