Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ajax defender Joel Veltman, with the Metro reporting that they are readying a summer move for the 22 year old centre-back.
Veltman has also been linked with a move from Ajax to Tottenham, has impressed in the Eredivisie this season as Ajax have eased to a fourth successive league title.
Netherlands international Veltman has made 24 league appearances for Ajax this season, scoring two goals. He has also won 59% of his aerial duels and has won 34 tackles.
News of Arsenal’s interest in the 22-year-old could spark a North London transfer tussle, should both Arsenal and Tottenham firm up their interest in the Ajax man.
Both sides are believed to be in the market for centre-backs this summer, although Arsenal’s need is more acute.
Club captain Thomas Vermaelen is likely to leave the club in the summer in search of first team football, leaving behind just Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
Tottenham are also keen on bringing in defensive reinforcements, with question marks hanging over the future of Jan Vertonghen and of the calibre of the defensive unit in general.
