With rumours about Real Madrid and Liverpool agreeing on a deal for Luis Suarez, Arsene Wenger has now set his sights on Real Madrid pair – Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane.
Wenger managed to successfully lure Mesut Özil from the Bernabeu, and he hopes to get lucky again.
There was speculation about Benzema’s future at Madrid with fans not being too supportive of the player, leaving him extremely disgruntled.
However, opinions changed once the former Lyon man scored four goals and provided another four assists in his last four appearances for the Spanish giants.
Wenger may see Benzema as the ideal man to strengthen an Arsenal attack that relies too heavily on Olivier Giroud, so much so that injuries to Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott have led to Nicklas Bendtner making a return to the first team set-up.
Varane would be a good addition to Wenger’s squad, albeit not a necessary one. The excellent form shown by Wenger’s first choice central defenders Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny and with Thomas Vermaelen ready and waiting on the bench there seems little urgent need to bring in the talented French international defender.
