As reported by Daily Star, Arsene Wenger had shown interest in Lille forward Salomon Kalou. If the club fails to bring in Julian Draxler, Salomon Kalou will be the automatic alternative choice for Wenger.
Kalou’s release clause is just £2.5 million which had attracted Wenger the most.
But Arsene Wenger’s first choice remains Julian Draxler for whom the club would bid £24.7 million.
Several other English clubs, which included Liverpool and rivals Tottenahm Hotspur, had also shown interest in the Ivory Coast striker. The ex-Chelsea player too was keen to come back to London.
Salomon Kalou scored 22 goals and provided nine assists since joining the club in the summer of 2012. He was a member of Chelsea’s Champions League winning squad in 2012.
