Rumour: Atletico Madrid set to rival Barcelona for shot stopper Pepe Reina

Atletico Madrid will go head to head against Barcelona for Liverpool goal keeper Pepe Reina in the summer.

Diego Simeone is destined to lose on loan Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois, who has been mightily impressive in the La Liga, despite desperate attempts to sign the Belgian on a permenant deal this winter.

Pepe Reina is currently on loan from Liverpool at Serie A outfit Napoli, and has been steady with his performances off late. With the Spanish keeper’s future in considerable doubt, Atletico Madrid see Reina as the ideal replacement.

Barcelona, who will lose the services of stalwart Victor Valdes at the end of the season, have shortlisted Pepe Reina and Marc-Andre ter Stegen as possible replacements.

If Barcelona come calling, a move to Catalunya could be too good to turn down, however, Atletico Madrid might have something to say if they go on to win the La Liga this season.
