Cardiff City could be set for a loan raid on Manchester United – but not for the expected signature of Wilfried Zaha.
Left-back Fabio da Silva is the man in question this time around, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to shore up his defence after seeing them defeated by a previously toothless West Ham side.
So Solskjaer has decided to raid his former club for the Brazilian full-back to make his third acquisition since taking over as manager, with Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daelhi having already signed this month.
Airtel, United’s official telecommunications partner broke the news on Twitter as their Q&A with Fabio, alongside twin brother Rafael, was cancelled, under the pretense that Fabio was joining Cardiff City on loan, although that tweet was later deleted.
The tweet read: “Unfortunately, Fabio will be joining Cardiff City on loan till the end of season & hence only Rafael will join us for #airtelAskUnited”.
Neither club has confirmed or denied such a deal is in place, but it is expected that a deal will be in place in time for the weekend.
Fabio also spent last season out on loan with a Premier League club, as he experienced relegation with QPR. Cardiff will be hopeful that history does not repeat itself in this instance.
Fabio made 21 appearances for QPR last season, and won 76% of his tackles, but also made three defensive errors.
