Celtic are considering a move for Manchester United loanee Nick Powell.
Neil Lennon was present at Wigan’s FA Cup semi-final to see the 20-year-old midfielder face-off against Arsenal, having been impressed with his performances in the Championship this season.
Powell is Wigan Athletic’s top scorer with seven goals in 30 appearances but, according to the Scottish Express, United will likely listen to any offers if it matches their valuation of the player.
The 20-year-old moved to United in 2012 from Crewe Alexandra and has represented England at all youth levels from U-16 to U-21. He scored 14 goals for the League One side before his move to Old Trafford, including a goal in their 2-0 victory over Cheltenham Town in the League Two play-off Final.
Celtic may face competition from other clubs, with Swansea previously having been rumoured to be lining up a £5 million bid.
Wigan manager Uwe Rosler will be desperate to keep hold of Powell, especially if the Latics fall short of promotion this year. If David Moyes sees a future for Powell at the club then another year’s experience at Wigan would be mutually beneficial for both parties.
Nick Powell is Wigan’s joint-top goalscorer for the current Championship campaign alongside Jordi Gomez. All seven of his goals have come from inside the penalty box.
