He was signed from Norwegian side Strømsgodset for a reported fee of €3 million (Dailymail) and featured in Madrid's 7-3 thrashing of Getafe in last season’s final fixture, where he came in on as 58th substitute to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. He thereby became the youngest player ever to don the famous Los Blancos jersey at the age of 16 years and 157 days.
Ødegaard is currently the highest earning teenager, grossing a whopping £80,000 per week, and a regular for Real Madrid Castilla, managed by Real legend Zidane. He reportedly refused a permanent move to the Scottish side back in January, (Eurosport)
Reunited with his mentor- Ronny Deila
Ødegaard’s loan move to Celtic marks his reunion with his former manager and mentor- Ronny Deila. It was Delia who showed confidence in the player’s capabilities by giving him his debut at the age of 15 at Strømsgodset against Aalesunds FK.
Previously Ødegaard had expressed his desire to work again with his former boss: "If I could work with Ronny again that would be great," said Odegaard last year according to the Eurosport report. “Obviously I’ve seen Celtic in the Champions League a lot and I was really impressed. They’re a great club with great fans."
“[Deila] spent a lot of time one on one with me. He was always giving me advice and has been so important to my development as a footballer. If I could work with Ronny again that would be great. Maybe it’s possible. This is football, everything is possible.” he said.
Deila has also reverberated his pleasure to work with the prodigy, "He is very special," said Deila in the Eurosport report, as he tried to sign the player at the start of the year.
"Every time he gets a level, he takes it. His attitude is great and he always wants to progress, to learn. I know what’s happening. He’s in the town where my kids live and I know a lot of people there. I have control of the situation and we’ll see what we do. If there are possibilities, of course, we will try it. But it’s a very hard competition."
Real Madrid’s new manager Rafa Benitez has allowed the player to move, where he can gain valuable Champions League experience. Meanwhile, he is also reunited with his former Strømsgodset teammate Stefan Johansen at Celtic Park.
