Rumour: Chelsea in for Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano

As Chelsea’s woes continue with a weekend defeat to Stoke City, they will look to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window. One of the names being mentioned, is the Barcelona star, Javier Mascherano.

As Frank Lampard nears the end of his career, Mascherano could be the perfect man to fill the void in mid-field. The likes of John Obi Mikel and Micheal Essien are yet to convince the manager of their credentials of a regular spot in the mid-field.

The former versatile Liverpool man, who played as a holding mid-fielder for the better part of his career, can also provide cover in defense, and could favour a move back to the Premier League.
