Rumour: Chelsea close in on Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia

Chelsea have been keeping tabs on 25-year old Inter Milan player - Andrea Ranocchia. Sources claim that the defender is ready to hand in a transfer request in a bid to force a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Italian has been in and out of the side this campaign under the new regime at the San Siro. The club is apparently planning a complete overhaul, which could see fringe players sold to fund new recruits.

Jose Mourinho has a number of options at center back in John Terry, David Luiz and Gary Cahill. The 25-year-old could fill the void left by John Terry,who enters the final phase of his illustrious career.

A move in January seems unlikely, as Inter Milan look to compete for a number of top honours this campaign.
