The January transfer window has not been closed a week yet but, still, ridiculous rumours surface and today’s former Arsenal hero-to-zero, Ashley Cole, is set to return to his old stomping ground in the summer, report the Metro. Cole is reportedly frustrated, after being left out of the first-team eleven on numerous occasions this term.
The 33-year-old is out of contract at Chelsea, the club he left Arsenal to sign for in 2006, meaning he could well be on the move once the season finishes.
Despite his success over eight years at Chelsea, he seems to have fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho in their second spell together. Cesar Azpilicueta has been preferred to Cole on occasion this season, meaning his time at the west London club may soon be up.
The likelihood of his departure now means that Wenger will go back in for, despite having Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs… Yeah, it doesn’t make much sense.
Wenger, apparently, is still a huge fan of Cole and has discussed bringing him back to the club with officials.
Cole has played 13 times in the Premier League this season and has not played in either of the last three matches. He didn’t fare well in his last match against Hull City, too.
