Chelsea are hoping to win the race for Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, reports the Daily Express.
The Stamford Bridge club are so keen to sign the Croatian international that they are willing to sacrifice Romelu Lukaku join VFL Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg had threatened to make a move for Mandzukic, destabilising Chelsea’s chase for the striker. The Blues signed Lukaku for £20million from Belgian outfit Anderlecht.
Mandzukic, who is also a target for Arsenal, is keen to leave Bayern Munich this summer after becoming unsettled under the regime of Pep Guardiola.
Wolfsburg are keen to sign the Belgian international but have balked at Chelsea’s £20 million asking price for a player who is relatively untested at the highest level. Jose Mourinho has concerns over the striker’s attitude, however, and may be willing to let him leave for a lower price in order to acquire Mandzukic.
Whilst they have expressed an interest in Mandzukic, Wolfsburg are far more interested in the 21-year-old Belgian hit man. Chelsea could use this to their advantage in capturing their man.
