Chelsea are set to confirm two new deals this month after announcing that they had signed Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid yesterday, according to AS.
The Blues have now signed Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and Costa from Atletico, who won La Liga last season, and are set to continue their summer spending spree by targeting two more Atleti players.
Left-back Filipe Luis has been lined up by Chelsea for a while after they gave up on Southampton’s teenage sensation Luke Shaw when Manchester United’s inclusion in the negotiations hiked the price up to an eye-watering £34 million.
Filipe Luis was ignored by Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari for his country’s World Cup squad this summer despite consistently performing well over the past couple of years for Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone. He was a key player in defence as they conceded just 26 goals in La Liga last season and made it to the Champions League final, only to lose against arch rivals, Real Madrid.
Tiago, another Atletico Madrid player, and formerly of Chelsea is being targeted by the Blues. He played for one season in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge of the club back in 2004-05, when he won the Premier League but was knocked out in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
It is understood that Mourinho’s spending this summer will stretch beyond €100m as he looks to regain the Premier League title after finishing third last season.
