Rumour: Dortmund in for two German World Cup winners?

Schurrle and Gotze
Gotze and Schurrle could be on their way to the Signal Iduna Park

After having a stellar 2015-16 season, finishing just behind champions Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund hoped to retain their settled force to compete for the Bundesliga title this time around. However, their two most coveted players Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ilkay Gundogan decided to move abroad and join the red and blue half of Manchester respectively.

The club management is not dwelling on the past though as they look to fill the gaps left by the two departures. In what could be the most eye-catching deal of the window, BVB is all set for a double swoop involving the two players who won the World Cup for Germany in 2014.

According to Kicker BVB are all set to resign Mario Gotze and Andre Schurrle, the man who assisted the former in the 2014 World Cup winning goal, this summer. Considering their heavy activity this transfer window, these two players will certainly help them fight for the title this upcoming season.

It is rumored that a five-year deal has already been agreed for the Wolfsburg man Andre Schurrle, although no transfer fee has surfaced till now. Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel is desperate to replace Mkhitaryan, who signed for United, with someone proven, and he sees the German international as the perfect man for the job.

Wolfsburg missed out on a UCL spot, but Schurrle performed quite well on his debut season scoring 10 times. He joined them from Chelsea last year after earning an unexpected medal as Chelsea were crowned champions. Though it seems surprising for a player to leave a club after just a year, the prospect of Champion’s League this term with Dortmund might see the deal go through.

The signing of Gotze will not be welcomed from fan’s perspective, though. The BVB faithful are still not ready to forgive the player who moved to their fiercest rival in a £37 million back in 2013. It is believed that Gotze would welcome a move away from The Allianz Arena as he has failed to consistently break into the Bayern starting XI.

Both Spurs and Liverpool boss Klopp were heavily interested in the German to bolster their squad, but now it seems that Dortmund are the front runners in acquiring the service of the man who was once touted to be the German Messi.

It remains to be seen how the proceeding unfolds, but going by Kicker’s report it is ‘highly probable’ that these two will end up at Dortmund.
