This certainly hasn’t been a great year for Manchester United’s strikers. Wayne Rooney has had his ups and downs thanks to both injuries and his deliberation over a new contract. There have been rumors that Robin Van Persie is unhappy at Old Trafford, claims that have been quashed aside by David Moyes. And to add to all of that, The reports are now emerging that the club’s Mexican striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is on his way out of the club.
The two-time Premier League winner has only started four Premier League games this season and is set to finish with less than 10 League goals for the first-time since his move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2010. The out-of-favor Mexican has failed to impress David Moyes sufficiently enough. And the Daily Star have now reported that the striker has been given permission to leave the Premier League champions at the end of the season.
After an impressive opening campaign that saw him score 20 goals, the Mexican has slowly but surely gone down the pecking order. And although he scored 10 goals in each of his last two League campaigns, most of them were from the bench. The 25-year-old was used as an impact player by Sir Alex Ferguson towards the end of his tenure, but Moyes doesn’t seem to fancy the Mexican and has reportedly given him the green signal to look elsewhere.
The Mexican has been warming the substitute bench for much of this season and is reportedly on the lookout for first-team football. Although his contract runs till 2016, the lack of regular opportunities have meant that the Mexican has been left with no choice, but leave at the end of the current campaign. With both parties ready to look at offers, Inter Milan, Tottenham and Valencia have emerged as possible destinations for the “Little Pea”.
The Italian giants Inter have already agreed to take club captain Nemanja Vidic from Old Trafford at the end of this season. And by the looks of things, it seems as though, they want the 25-year-old to follow suit.to the San Siro. According to reports, Inter have already spoken with the Mexican’s father, who acts as his agent, and are now preparing to make contact with the reigning Premier League champions ahead of a formal offer of around £12million. Although United are looking at the £15m mark, a deal is certainly possibly, once negotiations start.
Whilst the president, Erick Thohir has denied these claims, there certainly are more than a few clubs waiting for his signature. In England, Spurs are in dire need of a striker and are making all the right moves in their quest to snap up the Mexican. Valencia are also interested in the striker, and it looks like this might well be his last season with the Red devils.
Whilst his agent has strongly denied any claims of the striker moving away from Old Trafford and said “there is nothing concrete” about the offers, given his lack of opportunities, it should come as no surprise to anyone, if he decides to move away to enhance his playing career. And if he does, then United will surely be missing out on one of the most lethal finishers in the game today.
