Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has made Real Madrid holding midfielder Sami Khedira a priority target in the January transfer window as he looks to shore up his midfield, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish newspaper AS claims that the Portuguese coach has demanded to his superiors at Stamford Bridge that they move for the German international at any cost once the window opens.
The publication also believes that Khedira himself is keen on a move to the Premier League and would jump at the chance to reunite with his old boss in London.
Mourinho is looking to reinforce his midfield with the acquisition of the Real Madrid midfielder as John Obi Mikel continues to be overlooked while Frank Lampard and Ramires lack the necessary defensive abilities required.
Khedira has been a regular this season for Los Blancos, and it remains to be seen what price Real would demand for the 26-year-old star who has become an important part of the team since his move from VfB Stuttgart in 2010.
The German hasn’t been in top form this season with both tackle success and headed duels declining from the previous campaign, dropping from 72 and 57 per cent to 64 and 54 per cent respectively, although his average defensive actions has increased from two per game to three.
