Reports in Spain on Thursday suggested that Liverpool had signed Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno on a five-year deal.
Sevilla rebuffed a £16.2 million (€20 million) offer that included Reds youngster Suso (currently out on loan to Almeria) but are thought to be willing to do business at £18 million, according to Metro.
Reports suggest that the Andalusian club were keeping tabs on Suso throughout his La Liga loan spell but have no intention of following up on their initial interest.
Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado was mooted in a cash plus player swap deal for Moreno on Wednesday, yet Sevilla are not thought to be in the market for the former Valencia man.
The Europa League victors are said to be content with their current attacking contingent (Kevin Gameiro and Carlos Bacca) and are pursuing a youthful forward who will serve as back-up to this duo – as opposed to an established frontman like Soldado.
Liverpool have elected to do their transfer business early this summer, before the World Cup commences next week.
Rickie Lambert made the switch to Anfield earlier in the week in a reported £4.5 million deal, while Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can has agreed a “deal in principle” with the Merseysiders after they matched the Germany U21 international’s £9.75m release clause.
