Liverpool are hoping to bring out of favour Chelsea defender Ashley Cole to Anfield on a free transfer, as his contract with the Blues runs out this summer.
The Reds have been lacking quality at left back this season after an injury ruled out first choice Jose Enrique for the rest of the season. On loan Valencia defender Aly Cissokho has failed to impress in the Spaniard’s absence.
Ashley Cole on the other hand, has been frozen out of the first team set up since Jose Mourinho took over the reins at the London club, and will most likely move in the summer once his contract expires.
With the 32-year old planning a Premier League stay, he might prefer a move to Merseyside, where he could re-establish himself as a first team player at one of the top clubs in England, under Brendan Rodgers,
However, considering Liverpool’s policy with regards to not signing players above the age of 30, the manager could face stiff resistance from the owner and management in any dealings with the Englishman.
