Brendan Rodgers has reportedly made an enquiry for Bayer Leverkusen star man Emre Can, according to reports.
Rodgers is keen on replacing Lucas Leiva who has been deemed a bit-part player this season and looks set for the exit door in the summer.
Lucas, who has been the subject of criticism from some fans, has been linked with Inter Milan and it seems Rodgers has already identified other targets to replace the Brazilian, who also missed out on his national sides World Cup squad.
Rodgers and the Liverpool hierarchy have identified Emre Can, a 20-year-old defensive midfielder, as the man to replace Lucas once the Brazilian moves for pastures new.
The German youngster is known for his versatility and can also play at left back, centre midfield and attacking midfield. Can will cost in the region of £12 million, but Rodgers is keen to bring in quality and is willing to spend that much on the young talent.
Can signed from Bayern Munich on a four-year-contract with Leverkusen, but the Bavarian giants reportedly have a buy back clause to bring Can back to the Allianz Arena.
