England international Martin Kelly is about to call time on his fledgling Liverpool career with a fee now agreed for a move to Crystal Palace, according to reports.
In what comes as a surprise to many Liverpool faithful, the 24-year old is all set to switch bases to London for a reported fee of £1.5million.
Kelly was thought to be one of the most promising talents coming out of the Liverpool youth system. However, it now looks as if that he will have to make his mark on the Premier League elsewhere.
A centre-back by trade, he hasn’t been able to push himself into Brendan Rodgers’ side with Liverpool having a plethora of options for the spot.
The Reds have certainly upgraded the spine of their defence in recent years with the arrivals of Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren. However, those additions have resulted in one of the most promising youngsters to come out from the Liverpool system to look for pastures new. Many had thought that this season would have been the “last chance salon” after his appearances were restricted last season owing to injury.
Tony Pulis, who transformed Crystal Palace last season, had built his team’s foundation on the base of a sound defence would be more than happy to grab the youngster.
Pulis, pulled the Eagles to a 13th place finish in the table after taking over at Selhurst Park from Ian Holloway last season with the team in dire straits and a near certainty to go down.
The ex-Stoke City manager was also awarded the LMA Manager of the Year last season for his endeavours.
