Liverpool are reportedly looking to snap up Real Madrid targets Jeremie Frimpong and Alphonso Davies if right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves.
Alexander-Arnold, 26, has been a key player for the Reds since his first-team debut in the 2016-17 season under Jurgen Klopp. In 333 appearances across competitions, the Englishman has contributed 20 goals and 85 assists. That includes a goal and five assists in 23 outings across competitions this season.
The lone goal and four of those assists have come in 17 games for the runaway Premier League leaders. However, Alexander-Arnold is approaching the final six months of his deal at Anfield, but there hasn't been an extension yet.
Amidst links of the right-back with Los Blancos, the Reds are contemplating life beyond Alexander-Arnold. As per TeamTalk (via The Hard Tackle), Arne Slot's side are eyeing the Bundesliga duo of Frimpong and Davies should Alexander-Arnold leave in the summer as a free agent.
While Bayer Leverkusen's Frimpong would be a like-for-like replacement if Alexnader-Arnold departs, Bayern Munich's Davies could be a long-term replacement for left-back Andrew Robertson, who has struggled recently.
Both players are on the radar of Los Blancos. While Frimpong, 24, won't come cheap, as he's contracted with Leverkusen till 2028, Davies could be available on a free transfer, as his current Bayern deal runs out at the end of the season.
Coming to Alexander-Arnold, the Englishman will be eligible to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs in January ahead of a potential move in the summer on a free transfer. The Reds, though, aren't expected to give up on one of their prized assets without a fight.
What's next for Liverpool?
Liverpool are on a roll under new boss Arne Slot, who replaced the legendary Jurgen Klopp this summer. The Dutchman's side are eight points clear atop the Premier League with a game in hand.
Meanwhile, in the UEFA Champions League, the Reds are the only side to win their opening six games, leading second-placed Barcelona (15) in the 36-team field by three points.
Coming off a thumping 5-0 Premier League win at West Ham United to close out the year, the Reds return to action in the league on Sunday (January 5) when they host Manchester United.
The Reds have also fared well in the domestic cup, winning their first three EFL Cup games to book a semi-final date at Tottenham Hotspur on January 8. Three days later, they open their FA Cup campaign at home to Accrington Stanley.
