Rumour: Liverpool to rival Chelsea and Manchester United for Luke Shaw

Liverpool are the latest club to join the hunt for Southampton starlet Luke Shaw, joining Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea in the race for his signature.

Shaw has been heavily linked with a move away from the St Mary’s stadium this summer after lighting up the Premier League since bursting into the Southampton first team.

His displays have seen him called up to the England squad, with many tipping him to oust Ashley Cole from the squad going to Brazil for the World Cup this summer.

Liverpool are in need of a left-back, having had to play rookie right-sided defender Jon Flanagan out of position for the majority of the season.

Jose Enrique looks set to miss the remainder of the season with his knee injury, with manager Brendan Rodgers unconvinced over his ability to be the regular left-back for his title-challenging side.

With Aly Cissokho set to return to Valencia at the end of his loan in the summer, Rodgers is looking for a specialist left-back to bolster his impressive squad and feel that the progress his side have made could sway Shaw to join his Red revolution.

Chelsea remain favourites for his signature due to the player’s affiliation with the Blues, but with Rodgers putting so much emphasis on young English players, he could be persuaded to link up at Anfield instead.
