According to latest reports, Louis van Gaal is set to be appointed as the new Manchester United manager next week. The Dutchman was due to be announced as new United manager today, but to respect the preparations for Holland’s pre-world cup friendly with Ecuador, the United officials have decided to postpone the announcement until next week.
It is understood that Van Gaal will sign a two-year deal – with an option for a third – on a salary of £7 million a season to succeed the sacked David Moyes. Moreover, the Dutchman wants United legend, Ryan Giggs, to be his number two after the two greats met at the Holland manager’s house in the Dutch seaside town of Noordwijk on Wednesday.
Van Gaal, however, wants Giggs to solely focus on coaching and let go of his playing career; something that the Welshman has agreed in order to prolong his career at United and retain a prominent role with considerable input into the team.
Working alongside Van Gaal is seen as the perfect preparation for Giggs to take on the United job himself when the 62-year-old former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach decides to move on.
