Liverpool and Manchester City are battling with each other at the top of the Premier League but also on the transfer front as both are interested in a Feyenoord wonderkid labelled, ‘the new Patrick Vieira’.
Rodney Kongolo, the 16-year-old Feyenoord midfielder, is one of the hottest properties in Europe and was widely expected to join City but the Manchester side now face stiff competition from the Merseysiders who are eager to strengthen in central midfield.
Liverpool beat Southampton 3-0 to move above City in the Premier League table yesterday and will be hoping to beat them to Kongolo’s signing.
Kongolo’s mother met Liverpool officials last month, apparently, and the youngster will probably have to decide between the two Premier League clubs.
Feyenoord have been desperate to hang on to Kongolo and they feel he has a huge future at the club.
The Rotterdam club have tabled three separate contract offers but Kongolo has rejected them all, meaning his future at the club looks uncertain.
