The two Premier League title favorites are set to battle it out for the £10 million rated Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutch international was an unknown quantity in world football not too long ago. The Scottish champions signed the talented defender for just £1.6 million in the summer, offering him a long four year contract.
With consistent impressive performances this season in Scotland, the former FC Groningen man has now grabbed attention of the Europe big boys. The player has already made 26 appearances and established himself as a first team regular in his short Celtic career.
Manchester City and Arsenal, who have both had their fair share of problems in defence this season, have reportedly sent scouts to keep tabs on the progress of the young 22-year old.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon had nothing but praise for his center back and has predicted a bright international future for him.
“It’s inevitable, if he keeps going and progressing the way he is, that he’ll become a Dutch international,” said Lennon.
A move to the Premier League is sure to attract Virgil van Dijk, whose £10 million price tag might well be a bargain.
