Manchester United could be set to rival Chelsea for St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma.
Reports had suggested that Chelsea were close to sealing a move for the powerful centre back, but the Mirror believe that United boss David Moyes could be set to make a bid to hijack the deal.
Zouma has made 12 appearances for St Etienne this season, adding to the 18 appearances that he made last year. The 19 year old has proven to be an imposing physical presence at the heart of the French side’s defence and has won 80% of the aerial battles that he has contested.
Such form has sparked a transfer tussle between Premier League duo Chelsea and United. The Mirror believe that the two sides are locked in a £16 million tug of war over the centre back, as they both look for long term defensive options.
United are still to settle upon successors to Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, with Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all yet to cement their places in the United side, whilst Chelsea are looking for a successor for former England captain John Terry.
