Manchester United are reportedly contemplating a move for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, an Arsenal target. The 23-year-old is coming off a standout campaign.

In 37 games across competitions, the Netherlands youth international registered 12 goals and seven assists, helping Bologna finish fifth in Serie A. Despite having a contract till 2026, Zirkzee has attracted interest from multiple clubs across the continent.

As per The Athletic's David Ornstein, the Red Devils are 'exploring' a move for Zirkzee. They have established contact with his entourage and are reportedly 'aware' of his buyout clause of €40 million but haven't spoken with Bologna yet.

Zirkzee - who earned a late call-up to the Netherlands' squad for Euro 2024 - was an unused substitute in the Oranje's 2-1 comeback win over Poland.

The 22-year-old has been the subject of the Gunners as well, who as per Sky Sports (via Caught Offside), haven't made an offer for Zirkzee yet. The aforementioned report also mentions interest from AC Milan, which could complicate their and United's pursuit of Zirkzee.

Manchester United and Arsenal had contrasting 2023-24 campaigns. While the Red Devils finished a distant eighth - their lowest in the Premier League era - the Gunners ended a creditable second, two points off champions Manchester City.

In fact, Mikel Arteta's side kept the title race alive going into the final day. They completed their part of the bargain by beating Everton, but City - needing to avoid dropping points - beat West Ham United to become the first side in the Premier League era - and English league history - to win a four-peat.

In the EFL Cup, both United and the Gunners endured early defeats. While Arteta's side also lost early in the FA Cup, United went all the way, upsetting holders City 2-1 in the final to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

In the UEFA Champions League, though, United finished a dismal fourth in their group to crash out of Europe, while Arsenal reached their first quarterfinal in 14 years, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich.
