Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to offload centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, a Manchester United target. The Dutchman has been at Bayern since the summer of 2022 but has struggled to nail down a regular first-team place.

Last season, De Ligt, 24, contributed two goals and an assist in 30 games - starting 23 times - as Bayern endured a first trophyless season since 2011-12, losing their 11-year Bundesliga stranglehold.

Despite being contracted to the Allianz Arena till 2027, De Ligt is not considered indispensable for Bayern. As per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Dutchman could soon be surplus to requirements as Bayern are increasingly confident of striking a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah.

De Ligt has been linked with United for a while, with the Red Devils looking for defensive reinforcements after conceding a whopping 58 goals as they finished a lowly eighth, their worst finish in the Premier League era.

Raphael Varane has already left Old Trafford at the end of the last season, while veteran centre-back Jonny Evans is facing an uncertain future, with his current deal expiring last month.

Manchester United have had eight players selected for the ongoing Euro 2024. Among them, only the England duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw, Portugal's Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, and Turkey's Altay Bayindir remain alive in the competition.

Bayindir will hope to be in action when his side take on Austria in the final Euro 2024 Round of 16 game later on Tuesday (July 2) in Leipzig.

While England take on Switzerland in the quarterfinal in Dusseldorf on Saturday (July 6), Portugal lock horns with France a day earlier in Hamburg. The two sides cannot meet before the final, as they are on opposite sides of the draw.

Two other Manchester United players - Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund - also reached the Euro 2024 knockouts, but their team (Denmark) lost to hosts Germany 2-0 in the Round of 16. Scotland's Scott McTominay, meanwhile, saw his team crash out in the group stage after finishing fourth.
