Manchester United face competition from Serie A outfit Internazionale for the signature of highly rated Portuguese midfielder William Carvalho, report Talk SPORT.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a number of European heavyweights throughout the season, following a string of impressive performances for Leonardo Jardim’s Sporting Lisbon side, with Old Trafford touted as a possible destination.
Carvalho is reported to have a huge £37 million release clause inserted into his current contract with the Portuguese outfit and only a sizeable offer would be able to prise him away from Lisbon.
Inter chief Walter Mazzarri is set to be handed a transfer budget that will allow his side to compete for a Champions League place and he has made the addition of a midfielder a priority, with Carvalho and Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel amongst his primary targets.
Meanwhile, it is crucial that United have a successful summer in the transfer market as some reasons behind their failure under David Moyes can be attributed to a lack of strengthening in key areas of the squad.
