Manchester United are rumored to have begun negotiations with Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon for promising youngster William Carvalho, as manager David Moyes prepares an overhaul of his current squad.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with the holding midfielder in recent months, with the boss and his scouts monitoring the development and performance of the player.

The 21-year old has become United’s top summer target, and are hoping to conclude a realistic deal before the start of the World Cup in Brazil.

Although Sporting value their asset at £29 million, the Premier League giants are willing to offer only £25 million, which could turn out to be a potential complication in the deal.

The last time the reigning English champions bought a young talented player (Cristiano Ronaldo) from Sporting, he went on to become one of the greatest players in the world. The Old Trafford faithful will hope their latest target can reach similar heights at the Theatre of Dreams.
