Manchester United have reportedly identified a group of 'unsellable' players as they approach the January transfer window. The Red Devils are in the midst of a forgettable campaign, especially in the Premier League, where they are 13th.
Ruben Amorim has succeeded Erik ten Hag, who was sacked midway through the campaign after a horrendous start. The former Sporting CP boss, though, will have a tight budget to operate with in the upcoming transfer window as he seeks to bolster the squad.
As per Telegraph (via Sport Bible), Amorim might only be permitted to initiate a limited rebuild but will need to make player sales to generate the cash. However, as per Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg, six players have been deemed untouchable - Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro and Andre Onana. Among them, De Ligt, Mazraoui and Yoro arrived this summer.
Plettenberg also said that two-three unnamed players in the squad are considered unsellable.
The report essentially means the rest of the squad is deemed dispensable if suitable offers arrive.
Manchester United are in the midst of one of their worst campaigns in recent memory, with their only realistic title hopes being the two domestic cup competitions and the UEFA Europa League.
"Our goal is to win the Premier League" - Manchester United boss bullish about club's title hopes
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has refused to rule out his side's Premier League title chances despite the club being a whopping 16 points off leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
Ahead of the side's UEFA Europa League trip to Viktoria Plzen on Thursday (December 12), Amorim said that he has his eyes on the Premier League title and not just qualifying for Europe.
"I as a coach I cannot focus on just that," he told the club's website. "The way we can see in the future, titles or something. Our goal is to win our Premier League. That is our goal. Of course you can do the math and you can understand that for a big club like us to be in the Champions League is so important.
"You can see and look at the table that from the Europa League, maybe it is easier. You can then perhaps take this information for this context, but I am not focused on that, and our goal is to win the Premier League, not just to go to the Champions League."
Manchester United conceded early in the second half in Plzen, but a Rasmus Hojlund brace helped complete the turnaround.
