Manchester United are planning to offer new contracts to a further two of their current stars, with Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones the next in line to have discussions over extensions to their current deals, report the Daily Mail.
United have already set out plans to discuss fresh terms with goalkeeper David Dea and Tom Cleverley in recent weeks and with David Moyes makings his plans for next season, he is preparing to reward those he wants as part of his squad going forward.
Moyes is planning a major overhaul of his squad in the summer with a raft of players set to be shown the door, but he is making it clear to those he wishes to keep that they are still part of his thoughts despite the expected influx of new recruits at Old Trafford over the summer.
Jones’ representatives have been in talks with United over their assessment over his development and with the Red Devils happy with the former Blackburn academy product, they are set to offer him an extension on his deal, which currently has two years still to run.
The England defender has been a mainstay of the squad throughout Moyes’ debut season at Old Trafford and is seen to be the future of United’s central defence for the years ahead.
Welbeck has also made a big impression in Moyes first season with United, having added goals to his game and proving to be an able deputy to Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
The United manager is keen to keep the academy graduate at the club in the summer despite the expected arrival of another striker and is willing to offer him improved terms to extend his contract beyond 2016, when it is currently due to expire.
Danny Welbeck has scored nine league goals for Manchester United this season, converting 30% of his shots on goal.
