According to this report in Express, Manchester United are set to buy Ron Vlaar in order to bolster their ailing defence.
Ron Vlaar and Manchester United aren’t two words which you would mention in the same sentence, but the injury problems which United have had this season force them to look for alternatives.
And with January being a difficult period to bring in world class players, Louis Van Gaal has to settle for Vlaar. Van Gaal knows Vlaar well from his days at Netherlands National team but whether he can step up to the mark at United remains to be seen.
Manchester United reportedly will bid in the region of £6m in the hope of persuading the struggling Villains to sell. Paul Lambert after signing a new contract at Aston Villa has seen his side slide down the table and the club had to cancel its October goal of the month competition because they didn’t even manage to score a single goal.
Van Gaal’s teams generally don’t press intensely as other possession based teams do. His Bayern side which reached the 2010 final against Inter Milan, struggled against Inter who sat deep and picked them on the counter.
Whether Vlaar will be able to adjust to Manchester United is another discussion altogether.
