Rumour: Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney set for contract extension talks

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United - Premier League

Wayne Rooney

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is ready to begin contract extension talks with the club over a whooping £50 million, 4-year deal reports Mail.

The England international’s relation with the Manchester outfit has been troubled over the past 6 months, and this is the first sign of progress that had been made since early May, when the then United Manager- Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that Rooney had handed in a transfer request; which the forward has so far denied.

Paul Stretford, Rooney’s agent has been contacted a number of times in the past few weeks by the Red Devil’s executive chairman Ed-Woodward and formal talks are set to happen.

This news should come as a sign of relief for the United faithful, who have seen their beloved club drop to the middle of the table of the Premier League after seeing their manager leave the club ending his 26 year reign on health grounds. Losing Rooney would have further dented United’s hope for rebuilding soon, to be able to challenge for the title once again.

In the coming weeks, this situation will become clear, as Chelsea and Arsenal are also reportedly monitoring this situation closely.
