Following a summer of fierce speculation over his future, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has once again sparked transfer rumours by reportedly resisting attempts by the club to extend his deal. The Metro report (via Goal.com) that United have attempted to open talks on a new four year deal, but have been rebutted by the striker’s representatives.
The England forward was linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer, with former boss Sir Alex Ferguson alleging that he handed in a transfer request, but eventually stayed at United.
Rooney’s contract expires in the summer of 2015, but club representatives have already attempted to open contact over a new deal. Rooney has bounced back from a below par season last year to open this season with eight league goals in 13 games. However, whilst this form has impressed his own club enough to offer a new deal, Goal report that Rooney has been made aware of interest from other clubs.
“Wayne is resisting any and all attempts from the club to talk about his contract situation,” Goal.com quote their source as saying.
“He knows, more than anything, that with his contract running down and in the form that he is in, he holds all the aces.”
Rooney’s current deal is worth a reported £250,000 per week and United are said to be willing to match that salary. However with Rooney reportedly tempted by a move away from the club, David Moyes may have to brace himself for another transfer saga.
Wayne Rooney is Manchester United’s most creative player this season, creating 28 chances in the Premier League this term.
