Rumour: Manchester United target Ander Herrera set to stay at San Mames

Long time Manchester United target Ander Herrera is all set to decline advances from David Moyes’s side, in a bid to stay at Athletic Bilbao. The midfielder has been on the radar of the Red Devils for some time now, but the English champions have failed to lure him to Manchester so far.

The Reds desperately need to bolster their midfield with a creative midfielder as 27 million pound man Fellaini is yet to impress. David Moyes is making hard work of his first season in charge, languishing in 9th, after 14 games. Injury to star man Micheal Carrick has left the manager perilously short in mid-field.

Manchester United will hope to land their target this January, after their deadline day transfer bid for the young Basque fell through in rather perplexing circumstances. Herrera, however, is adamant he will see out his contract at San Mames which keeps him there till June 30, 2016.

“I appreciate both Manchester United’s interest in me and the fact that I am considered so important to Athletic that they did not accept any bid for me” the 24-year old said.

“That means that Athletic values me above money and trust in me more than money for our current project. I’m right where I want to be. I’m not a player who wants to change teams, I’ve taken root at Athletic and it is the perfect place for me to be.” he added.

David Moyes has his work cut out for him, if he is to persuade the star man to come to Old Trafford.
