According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are set to be dealt a major blow in their pusuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos as the German outfit are close to securing the player on a long term contract extension.
The Red Devils were increasingly hopeful of swooping for the talented German international after reports emerged, of the player being unsettled under new manager Pep Guardiola.
The 24-year old, who has made 184 appearances for the European Champions, is currently on a contract which will keep him at the Allianz Arena till 2015.
Bayern Munnich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has come out and confirmed the clubs desire to hold onto their asset.
He said: “I hope that we will come to an agreement with Toni”
“He is a player we basically want to keep happy. Now we must see it as entering into a new contract, which, in the final analysis, must be satisfying to both Toni and to FC Bayern.”
Manchester United will now need to look elsewhere as they hope to try and recruit accomplished international players in their attempt to turn around their horrific start to the season.
