Rumour: Manchester United enter the race for Yohan Cabaye

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, but will have to fight off interest from Paris Saint Germain if they are to land the French midfielder.

The Guardian report that Manchester United boss David Moyes is considering an offer for in-demand Cabaye as he looks to further strengthen his side before the close of the transfer window on Friday.

Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain are also said to be interested in Cabaye, and earlier today the French side firmed up their interest in the midfielder by making a concrete offer. Newcastle rejected that bid – said to be in the region of £14 million – but are now bracing themselves to deal with more bids for the Frenchman ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Manchester United signed Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata over the weekend, but are still looking to strengthen their midfield ahead of an assault on the Premier League’s top four. Cabaye has made 19 league appearances for Alan Pardew’s side this season and has scored seven goals, including the winner against Manchester United at Old Trafford in December.

He was linked with a move away from the club for much of the summer, but ended up staying at the club. However the Toon’s respite from offers has proven to be short lived and – in light of interest from Manchester and offers from France – Pardew may have to fend off more offers for Cabaye before the window slams shut.

Cabaye has created 33 chances this season – 15 more than Manchester United’s most creative midfield player Adnan Januzaj.
