Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal is also attracting interest from Arsenal.
The Dutch manager, who is favourite for the Man United job, is reported to be in contact with chief executive Ed Woodward.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is expected to sign a new 3-year contract with the club, but this is to happen only at the end of the season.
Van Gaal wants to keep all his options open until the end of the season.

It is also reported that Louis van Gaal is interested in appointing Roy Keane as his assistant manager if he is given the job of Manchester United manager.
The 42-year-old ex Manchester united skipper is currently assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland’s senior team and is working under boss Martin O’Neill.
