Patrice Evra could perform a dramatic u-turn and extend his contract at Manchester United, having appeared in the requisite number of games for the Red Devils this season, according to reports.
Evra is entitled to a one year extension of his contract should he play in 25 plus games for United and having achieved that already by playing 25 of United’s 26 league games, he could trigger the clause in his contract to receive a new deal at the club on his current wages.
This would by no means guarantee that Evra will still be a United player come the start of next season as he continues to negotiate with Paris St Germain and Monaco, while Inter Milan have laid their cards on the table as well.
The move would however put Evra in a stronger negotiating position with potential suitors, allowing him to command a higher wage and signing on fee from the clubs in the knowledge that he still has a contract at Old Trafford.
While manger David Moyes is happy to allow the Frenchman to move on, he is happy to keep him on the books, despite plans still to purchase a new left back in the summer.
Alex Buttner is also likely to be moved on, so Moyes is happy to keep Evra on and alternate between him and a new purchase.
Leighton Baines has signed a new contract to stay at Everton to end speculation that he could follow Moyes to Old Trafford, but there are plans afoot to sign Luke Shaw from Southampton, while Atletico Madrid’s Felipe is another rumoured option.
