Newcastle United have set a £150 million price tag for their star striker Alexander Isak amid interest from Premier League giants Arsenal. The 25-year-old first arrived at the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a reported €70 million fee.
Isak is having an impressive season for Newcastle United, having registered 12 goals and four assists in 19 appearances across competitions. That includes goals against Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and the Gunners. He also scored a brilliant hat-trick in the 4-0 demolition of Ipswich Town earlier this month.
As per the Telegraph (h/t Express), Newcastle have demanded a staggering £150 million for the Swedish marksman. Isak's current contract with the Magpies lasts till the summer of 2028, having last extended it in 2022.
Arsenal are in desperate need of a striker to bolster their chances of winning the Premier League this season. They have Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, both of whom have underperformed this season.
Havertz has scored 12 and created three more in 25 appearances across competitions this season. Jesus, meanwhile, has contributed just six goals and two assists in 23 games.
Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke slams Arsenal for not signing Alexander Isak
Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has criticised the Gunners for not signing Alexander Isk before his permanent transfer to Newcastle.
With 36 points in 18 games, the Gunners are six points behind table-toppers Liverpool. During a discussion with Sports Lens before Arsenal's 5-1 win over Crystal Palace, Yorke claimed that the Gunners lacked a No. 9. He said (via Mirror):
"Everyone keeps banging on about Arsenal missing a number nine, and I do think there's something to it. You watch their games, the last two, they've been so dominant and haven't been able to win the games.
"Let's have it right, they've dropped four vital points in their two last Premier League fixtures against Everton and Fulham."
Yorke went on to opine that the Gunners should have signed Isak before his move to Newcastle in 2022.
"They're missing something. I can't understand why Arsenal hesitated when they had the opportunity to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad. They sat on their hands, and Newcastle swooped in and took him. That was ridiculous."
He concluded:
"If (they) want to win the Premier League title, they should go to Newcastle and bang £100 million on the table for Isak as soon as the January transfer window opens.
"I think the kid looks really good whenever I see him play. He does all the right things properly. He's a threat. He would score so many goals playing for Arsenal."
Alexander Isak has scored 47 goals and created nine more in 86 appearances for Newcastle.
