Manchester United have been handed a big boost in their summer transfer plans after reports emerged that Jackson Martinez would prefer to join the Red Devils than his proposed move to Roma at the end of the season according to the Express, though Arsenal and Chelsea could still provide competition.

It was believed that Roma were leading the chase for the Colombian hitman and had a deal agreed in principal with the player, but with the Italian side having so far failed to meet Porto’s £40million asking price, there is no deal in place that would thwart David Moyes’ hopes of landing the striker.

Money is of no issue to United with £200m having been made available for transfers this summer and with the player himself believed to favour a move to the Premier League over Serie A, his agent has ensured that it is known that he is still available for transfer and no deal is in place to take him anywhere else as yet.

William Lara, Martinez’ agent, told reporters, “The price remains the same. It’s hard to say now. It depends on supply and demand and at this time, Porto are focused on other things.

“Roma is a big club, no doubt. Porto at this time has not yet initiated any contact about this matter. It has other matters to think about.

“The situation is critical, not the best. Porto are focused on this season’s finale. This situation will be evaluated later.”

Jackson Martinez scored just one goal in five Europa League appearances this season, converting just 6.3% of his shots on goal.
