Newcastle United are reportedly open to letting midfielder Bruno Guimaraes leave for less than his release clause if Real Madrid or Barcelona come calling in the summer.
The Brazilian has been a mainstay at St. James' Park since his arrival in 2021, contributing 11 goals and nine assists in 86 games across competitions. That includes a goal and three assists in 29 games across competitions this term.
In October, Guimaraes signed a new deal with the Tyneside club, which will keep him there till 2028, and also raised his release clause to £100 million. However, that's not applicable for Los Blancos and the Blaugrana, as per Football Transfers.
Anything less than his release clause won't be applicable for the 26-year-old's other suitors like Liverpool, Chelsea and PSG, though. As per the aforementioned report, Guimaraes' preference is a move to the Camp Nou this summer.
The Brazilian desires to continue playing UEFA Champions League football, which the Magpies are unlikely to offer him next season. Newcastle are ninth in the standings, 11 points off fourth-placed Arsenal (40) after 20 games.
Real Madrid and Barcelona set for blockbuster showdown in Spanish Super Cup
Real Madrid are set for a Spanish Super Cup rematch with defending champions Barcelona on Sunday (January 14).
The two La Liga giants won their respective semifinals this week in Riyadh. Los Blancos needed extra time to see off cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid 5-3 in the first semifinal earlier this week following a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes. Meanwhile, Barcelona downed Osasuna 2-0 in the other semifinal a day later.
In the 2023 title match, Xavi's side beat Los Blancos 3-1 to avenge their 3-2 extra time defeat in the final to their El Clasico rivals a year later. Fast forward to 2024, Madrid will start off as the marginal favourites, as they lead the third-placed Blaugrana (41) by seven points in La Liga after 19 games.
This will be the first piece of silverware for the season for either Spanish giant. Both clubs are also alive in the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League.
