Real Madrid are reportedly considering a summer move for Thibaut Courtois, due the Belgian goalkeeper’s impressive performances for city neighbours Atletico Madrid, reports the Metro.
Courtois is on loan at Atletico from Chelsea for the third season running and his future at the end of this season is a real talking point around the footballing world.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that he wants Courtois back at Stamford Bridge for next season and the burly Belgian is due in London to have talks with the club as he wants to set up a permanent camp for the next few years.
Courtois has established himself as one of the best shot stoppers in Europe after three fine campaigns at Atletico, where he currently holds the Zamora trophy for the fewest goals conceded in La Liga and is on course to land the trophy again having conceded just 16 times in the league this season.
He wants to be the first choice ‘keeper wherever he ends up next year, but with Petr Cech having given very little reason to lose his place between the sticks for Chelsea, Courtois is not guaranteed that position and could look to force a move should he not be granted such promises.
Atletico are keen on bringing him back on a permanent basis, but Real have now expressed their interest in luring the Belgian to Santiago Bernabeu, with their own goalkeeper situation still a cloudy issue.
Diego Lopez is currently occupying the number one shirt for Real, but he does not possess the star quality that president Florentino Perez demands, as he often fails to make the Spain squad.
Iker Casillas does possess such quality, but has been out of favour for over a year under both Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, with a new arrival to fill the void between the goalposts likely to be a recruitment issue over the summer for Los Blancos.
